THE PARIS NEWS, Fri. Nov. 30, 1951, p. 1: "Lamar Soldier Killed in Korea Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Baxter, Clement Road, Received a telegram Thursday night informing them that their son, Pvt. Buddy H. Baxter, 22, had died November 22, of wounds received in fighting in Korea. The telegram from the Secretary of the Army stated that he was seriously wounded in action and died later the same day. Pvt. Baxter was serving with Headquarters Co., 3rd Battalion, of the 8th Calvary Regiment at the time of his death. This was his second round of duty in Korea. Born at Bogata Jan. 29, 1929, Pvt. Baxter attended Fourth Ward School and Paris High School here. He enlistd in the Army in 1946 and took his basic training at Fort Bliss at El Paso. He was in Korea for a year and a half and returned to the states to be stationed at Camp Hood, Tex., and Camp Chaffee, Ark. He returned to Korea in September. Survivors besides his parents are brothers, Terry Baxter, Weatherford; J. R. Baxter, in the Army, now stationed at Spokane, Wash., Turley and Turner Baxter of Paris, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Marcilla, Kalamazoo, Mich; Mrs. Duncan Wells, Alexandria, La., and Mrs. Joe Benight, Beaumont." THE PARIS NEWS, Fri. Feb. 15, 1952, p. 10: "Funeral services for Buddy H. Baxter, 22, a Korean casualty, will be held at 10 a.m. at Gene Roden & Sons funeral home. The Rev. James S. Riley of First Baptist Church, will officiate, and interment will be made in Meadowbrook Memorial Park. Brown-Guest Post 30, American Legion has charge of military rites at the grave. The Army escort is Sgt. Lowman Wallace. Private Baxter died of wounds in action last Nov. 22. He was attached to headquarters of the Eighth Calvary. Son of Charles T. and Tennie (Cloud) Baxter, he was born at Bogata, Jan. 29, 1929, and attended schools there before entering the Army. Besides his parents, living here at 851-12 N.E., he leaves these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Duncan Wells, Alexandria, La.; Mrs. Joe Bennight, Beaumont; Turner Baxter, Rt. 1, Paris; Pvt. Terry Baxter, Weatherford Air Force Base, and Sgt. Johnny R. Baxter, Spokane, Wash., Air Force Base." Submitted by Sylvia Tongson.
