THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Tuesday, March 30, 1920, p. 3: “The condition of G. C. Baughn, an aged resident of Deport, who was taken sick at the home of his son, M. H. Baughn, in Paris while here on a visit, was reported unimproved yesterday. His children have been summoned to his bedside.

THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Thursday, April 1, 1920, p. 3: “G. C. BAUGHN DIES AT SON’S HOME IN PARIS. G. C. Baughn an aged resident of Deport, died at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of his son M. H. Baughn, 100 North 27th street. He was in his eighty-eighth year, and he had been enjoying fair health, but recently had been suffering from kidney trouble. He and his wife came to the city ten days ago to visit their son, and he became seriously ill a day or two after their arrival. The remains were carried to Deport late in the evening and the funeral will be held there this afternoon. Mr. Baughn was born at Luray, Tenn., and was an old neighbor there of W. A. Nobles, J. T. Threadgill and Robert Thomas, well known citizens of Lamar county, formerly of Deport who are now living in Paris. He came to Lamar county in 1878 and located in Deport, where he resided continuously and was engaged in farming. He served in the Confederate army from his native state, was a devoted member of the Baptist church, and was a member of the Masonic lodge at Deport. A friend who had know him all his life remarked last night in speaking of him that he was a good man as ever lived, and that everybody who know him loved him. He is survived by his aged wife, who is nearly as old as he was, and by the following children: J. W. Baughn of Mineral Wells, Neil Baughn of Blossom, W. L. Baughn of Deport, M. H. Baughn of Paris and Mrs. B. E. Nobles of Farwell, N. M.”

Received a pension from the State of Texas for service in the Confederate Army under wife Susan J. #45574.

Information from Deb Kueter, deb.kueter@gmail.com, 05/04/2014: George was born Sept. 29, 1832 in Virginia to Silas Mercer Baughn and Mary Elizabeth Carter. His family later moved to Henderson County, Tennessee. George married Susan Jane Bell on May 20, 1858, in Henderson County, Tennessee. The couple had five children. George served in the C.S.A. as a Private in Company F of the 51st Tennessee Infantry. The family migrated from Tennessee to Lamar Co., Texas, sometime before the 1900 US Census.

On the same stone with Susan J. Baughn. Tombstone is inscribed, “George C. Baughn - 1832-1920.”
