THE PARIS NEWS, 18 Dec 1983. 'Clifton L. Battle Jr., 2206 W. Austin, died Friday, 16 Dec 1983 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, 19 Dec at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Cox and the Rev. James Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Battle was born 20 Oct 1919, in Augusta, Ga., a son of the late Clifton L. Battle Sr. and Wilhemina Morgan. He attended public schools in Augusta, Ga. and graduated from Richmond Military Academy there in 1937. He was a retired salesman and worked for Anheuser-Busch, Pete Humphrey Grocery Co., and Kimball Grocery Co. He retired from Paris Janitorial Supply in 1974. He was a veteran of World War II. On 25 Oct 1945 [sic], he married Miss Evelyn Chaney in Paris. They lived in this area most of the time. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was past commander of the DAV and a member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Paris; one daughter, Mrs. Jeanne Bilodeau, of Blythesville, Ark.; one son, Phillip Battle, of Powderly; five grandchildren; one great grandson; and one sister, Mrs. Helen Heath, of Augusta, Ga.'

Tombstone is inscribed, 'CPL., US Army WWII.'
