THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, July 4, 1954, p. 7: “BATEMAN RITES. Last rites for Mrs. Lula Bateman, 80, of 1804 W. Houston St., were held Saturday at 4 p.m., at Fry - Gibbs chapel by Mason P. Denton, Bagwell Church of Christ minister. Burial was made in Meadowbrook Memorial Park, and pallbearers were Floyd Thompson, Roy Roberts, Roy Parsons, M. L. Brown. Jr., John Thompson and Morris Cass, Mrs. Bateman, who died Thursday night in a convalescents home here, was the daughter of H. R. and Sarah (Thornbery) Brown. She was the widow of Gus Bateman, who died about 45 years ago.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, July 6, 1954, p. 6: “Attend Funeral. Here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Lula Bateman Saturday were Mrs Clyde Henry, Mrs. Elbert Stephens, Miss Mildred Glass, Mrs. William Bristow, Mrs. Flex Bolton, Mr. and Mrs. Mason Denton, all of Bagwell; Mrs. Hugh Whitmer, Clarksville; Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Brown, Mr. aad Mrs. Gid Crutchfield, Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Thompson, Mrs. Mildred Stephens, Direct; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Roberts, Shawnee, Okla.; W. J. Brown, Houston; Morris Brown, Baytown, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Parson, Garretts Bluff.”
