THE PARIS NEWS, 14 Aug 1962: 'Mrs. Walter W. Bassano, Sr., 91, died Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. at the Ramsey Nursing Home, 717 12th SE, where she has been a resident some time. She suffered a stroke there Sunday night. She was the mother of Walter W. Bassano Jr., publisher of The Paris News, and of Alfred Bassano and Mrs. Martin DeWitt, all of Paris, besides Charles H. Bassano, Marianna, Ark., and Earl W. Bassano, Memphis, Tenn. A daughter, Mrs. Hal Womack, is deceased. Survivors include 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral, Thursday at 10 a.m., will be held at Fry and Gibbs Chapel by the Rev. Melville D. Nesbit of Central Presbyterian Church, where Mrs. Bassano was a longtime member. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery by the side of her husband, who died 17 Jun 1942. The former Miss Byrd Williams, daughter of Jim and Eliza Ann (Pickard) Williams, Mrs. Bassano was born in Paris, 17 Jan 1871, and attended schools here. She and Walter Willet Bassano Sr., were married here 18 Mar 1891, by the Rev. Charles Manton, pastor of old Cumberland (now Central Presbyterian) Church, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the home of Walter Bassano Jr. Her husband was born in Paris, member of a family who came here from England in 1850, and established a milling business, afterward sold to Paris Milling Company.'
