THE PARIS NEWS, May 10, 1956: "Walter Bass, 89-year-old Negro resident of Rt. 1, Powderly, died at home Wednesday after being in ill health for several years. He had been a farmer, owning his own place in the community where he lived all his life. Ferguson Funeral Home here has charge of the arrangements for services, which were incomplete. Besides the widow, Mrs. Cora Bass, survivors are these children: Mrs. Florence Stewart, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Channie Mae Ellis, Clarksville; Mrs Rozetta Ellis, Arthur City; Mrs. Ferginia Ellis, Chicota; Mrs. Lizzie Brown and Burford Bass, Paris; Rubin Bass, Rt. 6, Paris; York Bass; Lorenzo; Rural Bass, Washington, D.C.; Jack Bass, Wichita Falls, and Walter Bass, Jr., Stockton, Calif; 20 grandchildren and a number of other relatives."
THE PARIS NEWS, May 13, 1956: "Funeral services for Walter Bass, 89-year-old Negro farmer of Rt. 1, Powderly will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Reeds Chapel Baptist Church near Powderly, burial in Reeds Chapel Cemetery to be made by Ferguson Funeral Home of Paris. The Rev. H.N. Logan will officiate. Bass died at home Wednesday, leaving his wife Cora, and 12 children, name of the eldest son, Bennie Bass, Rt. 1, Powderly, being inadvertently ommitted from the list of survivors published earlier."
