THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, June 11, 1982, pg. 4: "William Nathaniel (Bill) Basden, 2055 Jackson, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 10, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Johnson of Ramseur Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Basden was born Nov. 17, 1916 in Paris, a son of Oscar J. and Ella Jane Eubank Basden. He attended Paris schools and attended Paris High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy. On April 15, 1944, he married Inez Hatcher in Greenville. He retired in Feb. 1980 from Babcock and Wilcox after 27 years of employment as a welding specialist. He was a member of the Ramseur Baptist Church and its Berean Sunday School Class. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Alan Basden of Lake Charles, La., Mac Basden of Paris and John Mark Basden of Paris; five grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. M. O. Hatcher of Paris. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clovis Basden during World War II. The family will receive frieds from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home."
