THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, November 11, 1936, p. 10 : “BARNETT FUNERAL HERE ON WEDNESDAY. Mrs. Mary Barnett, 85 years old, former resident of Paris, died in Wichita Falls Monday night about six weeks after the death here of her husband, W. E. Barnett and the body was brought here Tuesday night for burial. Funeral service was arranged for 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Emberson-Brown-Roden funeral home conducted by the Rev. E. Lee Stanford of Bonham Street Methodist church, interment being made at Union Grove cemetery. Survivors are these children, Mrs. Rhoda Jenkins, Anderson Ala.; Mrs. W. S. Johnson and Will Barnett of Wichita Falls; Mrs. Belle Latson, Lamesa; Mrs. Silas Frazier, Beaumont; Mrs. John R. Wilkes and John Barnett, Paris. There are 42 grandchildren.”

Research Notes: Mary is listed as Mary Prichott in her son, John Hardy Barnett’s record. However, Mary is listed on the 1860 census of Calhoun County, Alabama, with her sister Sarah Pritchet as head of household. Other censuses for her brothers list the spelling of the surname as Pritchett. Family researchers also spell the surname as Pritchett.
