THE PARIS NEWS, Mon., Dec. 12, 1994, p. 8A: “James L. Barnett, 60, Rt. 1, Blossom, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 1994, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Barnett was born Nov. 23, 1924 [1934], in the Pinhook Community in Red River County [sic], a son of Loranzo Wesley and Evelyn Sparks Barnett. He attended Lamar County schools. He married Betty Smith June 26, 1952. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Hilliard and Sons Contractors. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Vickie Mullens of Blossom; a son, Jo Barnett of Paris; two grandsons, Tony Mullens of Blossom and Joe Dean Barnett of Paris; his parents, L.W. Barnett of Paris and Maggie Watson of Rt. 6, Paris; five sisters, Betty Smith of Rt. 6, Paris, Margie Perry of Manchester, Ethel Johnson of Rt. 6, Paris, Linda Haley of Quinlan and Kathy Christian of Mesquite; and a brother, Roger Barnett of Grand Prairie. Pallbearers will be Don Hilliard, David Hilliard, Gary Hilliard, Travis Talley, Arthur Kuykendall and Perry Winter.”
