THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, December 13, 1936, p. 13: RESIDENT OF HIGH SUCCUMBS SATURDAY. O. S. Barnes of High, 49 years old, died at 8 o’clock Saturday morning at Lamar hospital where he had been a patient about a week. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Emberson-Brown-Roden funeral home, conducted by the Rev. T. W. Lovell, Brookston Methodist pastor, and interment will be made at Pleasant Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roscoe and Floyd McClure, Elmer Conwell, Wilford Jack, Arthur White and Bud Snell. Mr. Barnes had been employed for some time at the gin at High. He was a son of the late O. P. Barnes and is survived by two brothers and a sister, Cliff Barnes of Paris, R. L. Barnes of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. W. W. Key of High.”

From an old scrapbook of newspaper clippings and obituaries collected by Ada Bradley Yates of High community, transcribed by Phillip Rutherford.  Unnamed, undated newspaper: “Orren Silas Barnes had been employed by the gin at high. He was the son of O. P. Barnes. He is survived by sister Mrs. W. W. Key of High and brothers Cliff Barnes of Paris and R. L. Barnes of Memphis, Tenn.”
