THE BONHAM DAILY FAVORITE, April 27, 1922: “CLAIM DAMAGES FOR DEATH OF THEIR CHILD. C. B. Barnes and wife, Mrs. Elna Barnes, residing at the corner of Houston and Seventh streets, instituted suit in the Sixty-second district court yesterday against W. H. Stewart of Honey Grove for damages for causing the death of their five-year old child, Jas. W. Barnes, who was struck by an automobile on the evening of April 11 and was fatally injured. The petition charges that the defendant was going at high rate of speed at the time of the accident and that the death of their child was due to his negligence and carelessness. The plaintiffs ask for alleged actual damages in the sum of $15,000 and exemplary damages in the amount of $20,000. -- Paris News.”

The Austin American (Austin, Texas), Monday, April 17, 1922 - “HOMICIDE CHARGE AGAINST PARIS MAN IS FILED - PARIS, Texas, April 16 -- W. N. Stewart of Honey Grove, charged with negligent homicide in connection with the death of the 5-year old son of C. K. Barnes, who was run over and killed by an automobile recently, made bond today in the sum of $500.”
