THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1960:  “BARNES FUNERAL. Funeral arrangements had not been announced for Ed Barnes, 72, farmer of Paris, Rt 2, who suffered a fatal heart attack downtown Monday morning. Gene Roden and Sons have charge. Ed Barnes was born Sept. 4, 1886 at Bonham, TX, son of the late Adolphus and Tinia Edwards Barnes, had lived in Lamar County since 1900. He leaves his wife, the former Miss Lellia May Kindle: these children; James Edward Barnes, Sherman, TX, Bill Jack Barnes, USAFB Lake Charles, La. and Mrs. Madeline Rutherford, Linwood, CA.; 11 other descendants. A sister, Mrs. Hubert N. Winfrey; a half-sister, Mrs. Myrtle Jack, Brookston and a half-brother Ellie Brown in N.C.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 14, 1960: “Last rites for Ed Barnes, 72, a farmer of Paris, Rt. 2, who died Monday, were held Thursday at Gene Roden & Sons chapel by the Rev. W. M. Thrasher and the Rev. Gene Burgress, Baptist pastors. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery, bearers being Richard Wheeler, Coleman Wheeler, Ross Mills, Cleve Smith, James P. Peace and Lloyd Morrison.” Submitted by Linda Broyles.
