THE PARIS NEWS, April 2, 1926: "Mrs. Catherine Cross, 26 years old, daughter of Mrs. D. S. Cross of Roxton, was found by her mother shot to death at the latter's home late this afternoon. A pistol lay near the body. Mrs. Cross had been in ill health for some time. She is survived by a three year old daughter. The mother found the body in a room of her home with a bullet wound in the head.. The deceased was the only daughter of the older Mr. Cross and was living at her home. Funeral arrangements had not been completed tonight."

Information submitted 27 November 1995 by Peggy McGee Maness [deceased]: Catherine Barger was born Catherine Alice Cross on 9 June 1900 in Roxton, Texas. She was the only child born of the marriage of Duain Sheb Cross (WWI) and Alice Ruth Wight. On 22 Aug 1921, she married William Edgar Barger, a native of Tennessee. Catherine and Edgar Barger had one child, Loraine Barger. Loraine was born in March of 1926. Catherine died 1 April 1926 at the home of her mother, Alice Cross, and is buried in Restland Cemetery [next to Alice Cross]. Her daughter, Loraine, was adopted by Alice Cross. Loraine married Jack Willis Lewis, a native of New Jersey, who was stationed at Camp Maxey. Edgar Barger died in 1957 in Joplin, Missouri, where Loraine was living at the time.
