Unnamed Newspaper, Hand written date of March 19, 1972: “Oscar P. Barber, 62, of 71 W. Neagle, supervisor of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, died Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Friends will be received Sunday between 7:30 and 9 p.m. at Leverett & Steele Funeral Home, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial is arranged in Evergreen Cemetery. Son of Charlie and Mattie (McFarland) Barber, Oscar Barber was born ar Biardstown, July 21,1909. He was a member of the Deport Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Gunn; three children: Bill Barber, and Mrs. D.R. Burks, Paris, and Mrs. Claude O’Neal, Cunningham; nine other descendants; a brother, Homer Baber, Lubbock, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Chance, Stephenville. Also his stepmother, Mrs. Ethel Love here; a half-sister, Mrs. Julia Ann Oakes, Hugo, Okla.,and two half-brothers; Lonnie Barber, Tyler, and Charles Barber, Paris.
Unnamed Newspaper-Hand written date of March 31,1972: “Funeral services for Oscar P. Barber, 62, of 71 W. Neagle, was held at Leverett & Steele chapel Monday by the Rev. D’Verl Archer and Sister Virgie Temple, burial being made in Evergreen Cemetery. Bearers were Sidney M. Richey, Louie L. Noles, Robert Brunson, Billy Joe McFadden, Pete McKnight and Eugene Norwood. Mr. Barber, a soil conservation supervisor, who died Saturday morning, was the husband of the former Annie Gann.” Submitted by Linda Broyles.
