Information from Carmen Lee Burks [deceased]; A Bright-Holland Funeral Home marker. Daughter of Margaret E. 'Bessie' Bolton and John William Phillips. Born in Lamar County and died in Paris, TX. Married Johnny Bankhead in Lamar County, by Rev. H.M. Thompson. After the death of her mother, 4 Apr 1902, she was raised by her paternal grandmother, Elizabeth C. 'Bettie' Adams Phillips McMurry. Children: Ennis Murry, born 16 Aug 1920 in Cunningham, died 3 Sep 1943 in France during WW II, (he is buried in the American Cemetery at Epinal, Vosges, France); Margie Evelyn, born 27 Aug 1922 in Cunningham, married Dennis Raymond Lee, 14 Feb 1942, in Brownwood, TX.; Johnny Ray (a twin), born 25 Nov 1924 in Cunningham, married Helen E. Dirks, 5 Jan 1955 in Pasadena, CA.; Ruby Fay (a twin), born 25 Nov 1924 in Cunningham, married Roger Donovan Mason, 16 Apr 1944, in Hugo, OK.; Betty Jo, born 9 Jun 1928 in Cunningham, married Billy Joe Kennedy, 7 Jan 1951 in Paris; J.B., born 27 Jan 1931 in Bridgeport, TX., married Doris Ann Cass, 3 Apr 1953 in Paris, TX.
THE PARIS NEWS, 27 Nov 1989. 'Ruby Carmon Bankhead, 88, 4110 Enchanted Drive, died Monday, 27 Nov 1989, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, 28 Nov, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Brown officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery at Cunningham. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Bankhead was born 7 Oct 1901, in Pattonville, a daughter of John and Bessie Bolton Phillips. She married Johnny B. Bankhead in 1918, in Pattonville. He died in 1931. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and had owned and operated Bankhead Grocery here. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Marige) Lee of Paris, Mrs. Ruby Mason of Greenville and Mrs. Billy (Betty) Kennedy of Paris; two sons, J.B. Bankhead of Paris and Johnny Ray Bankhead of Paris; two sisters, Mrs. Jesse Davis of Paris and Rotha Lee Ballard of Paris, and an aunt, Lavetta McMurray of Cunningham; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Murry Bankhead, 3 Sep 1943.'
