THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 5 Mar 1981: “Roy Ball, 69, of Direct died 2 Mar 1981 in a Paris hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, 4 Mar in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. H.L. Stephens and the Rev. Ray Decker officiating. Burial was in Georgia Cemetery. Mr. Ball was born in Fannin County on 14 Dec 1911, son of Charlie N. Ball and Bessie Jane Holcomb Ball. He attended public schools at Telephone and was a farmer in the Direct community for many years. He was a disabled veteran of World War II. Survivors include one brother, Bud Ball of Direct; one nephew, Billy Don Daniels of Bonham; two aunts, Mrs. Marie McGraw and Mrs. Julie Ball, both of Denison.” Pallbearers were R.V. Crutchfield, Vester Crutchfield, Lester Crutchfield, Deward Crutchfield, Russell Stephens and B.D. Brashears.
Military marker inscribed, “Sgt US Army - World War II.”
