THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, November 6, 1917, p. 7: "DEATH OF MATT BALL AT HOME NEAR MINTER. W. M. (Matt) Ball, a well known farmer of Lamar county, died last Saturday evening about 5 o'clock at his home three miles north of Minter, after an illness of 2 weeks. He was sixty-four years old and was born in Kentucky, but had lived in Lamar county the greater part of his life, and was engaged in farming in the Minter community. He leaves a wife, three sons and a daughter, all of whom live in the vicinity of Minter. He also leaves a sister Mrs. Meins of El Paso, and three brothers Elihu Ball of Minter and A. Y. Ball and Dr. John Ball of Paris. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Woodman Lodge. The funeral service was held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. H. M. Thompson, and the Odd Fellows officiated at the grave."
