Notes

The Deport Times, (Deport, Texas), Friday, September 12, 1924: “A. E. BALL. Albis Elihue Ball died suddenly at his home at Minter Saturday night from heart failure. His death was a great shock to his family and the community. It was known that he suffered some from vertigo, but his condition was not considered serious. Ho suffered an attack Tuesday of last week when his son’s team ran away from the Minter gin and came to the Ball home without a driver, but he had recovered and was feeling well when he retired Saturday night. Mrs. Ball called to him a short time later, and not receiving a reply, investigated to find that he was dead. Mr. Ball was born in Murray County, Tenn., March 18, 1852 and moved to Texas with his parents when a small boy. He first lived at Paris, later moving to the southeast part of Lamar County, where he was married to Lucy Jane Yancey on Jan. 25, 1874. A reception was held at the Hall home last January in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of this marriage, when about 250 guests were present. Deceased for a number of years was engaged in the gin business at Minter, later disposing of this property and investing in land. For a number of years he had devoted his time to looking after his farming interests. Five children were born to him, all of whom, with his wife, survive. They are Mrs. A. M. Martin of Deport, Mrs. D. T. Elliott of Minter, Mrs. Chas. Hill of Paris, Albis and John Ball of Minter. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Ball was converted at an early age at the old Rockford church under the preaching of Rev. Manton and united with the Presbyterian Church. He was a good citizen and a Christian gentleman, and the influence of his life will long be felt by the people among whom he lived for so many years. The funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon at the home by the Rev. Andrew Walker of Biardstown, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Willanks of Deport, and interment was made at Evergreen Cemetery at Paris. A large number of neighbors and friends paid tribute to his memory by their presence, and the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
