THE PARIS NEWS, April 16, 1920: “Mrs. Ruth Baker, aged 83 years, passed away at 7:15 o’clock last night at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Mattie Brandon, 145 West Austin street. There she had made her home for several years. Funeral services will be held there at 4 o’clock this afternoon by her pastor, Rev. Ben M. Edwards and burial will be at Evergreen. Mrs. Baker, who had been a resident of Paris since 1868, was born in Lexington, Ky., and was married there to J. H. Baker. The family came to Texas in 1855 and settled at Clarksville, later removing to Paris. Her husband died about fifteen years ago and she had since made her home with one or another of her children in Paris. Messres. Russell R., Dudley and Dan Baker, and Meadames Branden and Claude Hildebrand. Another daughter and son, Mrs. Crissie Baker and Cumby Baker, live in Dallas and all were with her when she died except Mrs. Crissie Baker who could not come on accounts of illness in her family. Mrs. Baker had been ill about two weeks and her advanced age made her recovery doubtful from the first.
