THE PARIS NEWS, Thurs, July 22, 1954: “Funeral service for N. T. (Tom) Baker, who died Wednesday, was set for Thursday at 4 p.m. at Fry-Gibbs Chapel, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. James. S. Riley of First Baptist Church has charge, pallbearers were Gurney Crumley, Leon Hodges, Everett Billingsley, Frank Crain, Lewis Nix and Dr. A. L. Jones. For many years employed as bookkeeper for the old Johnson-Billingsley Hardware Company here, Mr. Baker had been ill some time. He died at home, 1317 Bonham St., Wednesday at 10 a.m. Mr. Baker leaves his wife, the former Miss Katie Davis, whom he married Sept. 17, 1917, and two children, Tom Baker, Jr., and Mrs. Glenn Philips, both of Plainview; three grandchildren and two brothers, John S. Baker, Paris, and Him Baker, San Antonio. Mr. Baker was born in Mississippi Sept. 27, 1872, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Thomas Baker, Sr. The family came to Texas in 1886, setttling in Lamar County, and Mr. Baker had lived in Paris since 1889. He was employed as a bookkeeper most of the time, and was active in First Baptist Church, of which he was a member, as long as his health permitted.” Submitted by Carol Campbell.
