THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, October 15, 1954, p. 2: “John W. Baker - John W. Baker, 72, died at 12:20 p. m. Friday at his home, 1919 E. Cherry, where he had been ill for some time. He was a retired furniture dealer. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending the arrival of his sons from Los Angeles, Calif. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Clarence E. Saint, minister of First Christian Church, at Roden & Sons Funeral chapel, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Irene Taylor Baker of Paris, and three sons. Harry Baker, Leslie Baker and Lewis Baker, all of Los Angeles, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.”
THE PARIS NEWS Monday, October 18, 1954, p.2. “Baker Pallbearers. Pallbearers at the funeral of John W. Baker, 82, of 1919 E. Cherry St., Monday at Gene Roden & Sons chapel, were Fred Myres, Dorcy Mackey, Allie O’Brien, Joe Tom Hill, Henry Crenshaw and Gill Biggers. Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Baker, former Furniture store operator and dry goods salesman, died at home here Friday.”
