THE PARIS NEWS, 24 Oct 1958: 'Dan F. Baker, 75, retired confectioner and onetime Lamar County deputy sheriff, died Friday at home, 565 E. Houston St. The funeral was held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Fry and Gibbs chapel by the Rev. Melville D. Nesbitt of Central Presbyterian Church. Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery. Surviving besides his wife, Ethel, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Yost, Dallas; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Born at Sulphur Springs, 13 Feb 1883, Dan Baker was a son of the late James and Ruth (Raines) Baker. He came to Paris as a youth, and while in his teens, worked at Reb Stell's confectionery and ice cream parlor on the east side of the plaza, and later for the Claude Hildebrand confectionery, on the southwest corner, where now is Palace Drug Store No.2. He was manager there for several years. About 20 years ago, he served as deputy sheriff, and then was employed in clerical work at Camp Maxey during World War II.'
