Notes
THE PARIS NEWS, October 3, 1913: "Sam L. Bean, a prominent farmer who lived about a mile West of Deport, was killed last Monday evening on his farm by George Parker, who had been working for him during the year as a day laborer. The tragedy occurred at the house on the place occupied by Parker and his family, and it is understood that the trouble came up in some way in regard to picking cotton. Mr. Bean had gone to his house to see him about the matter, it was difficult to obtain the particulars of the affair, but according to Parker's statement he acted in self-defense. He claimed that Mr. Bean was advancing on him with a jug when he seized a stick of stovewood and struck him across the neck below the left ear. The blow broke the neck and he fell to the ground unconscious and lived only a few minutes. It is understood that Parker did not make an effort to get away, but that he remained at home until Jim Murrell, former local deputy sheriff, went out and took charger of him. The killing caused a great deal of excitement in the Deport community and is much deplored. The deceased had lived there a number of years and was highly esteemed by his neighbors. He was bout forty-six and is urvived by his wife and nine children." From DEATHS, MURDERS AND OTHER TRIBULATIONS edited by Patricia Armstrong Newhouse.
Double marker with Evelela Dial Bean. Near Ben Tom Bean and Alfred E. Eudy.
